India, Jordan Share Common Stance Against Terrorism, Says PM Modi

Amman: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that India and Jordan share a common and firm stance against terrorism, extremism, and radicalisation, as he held delegation-level talks with Jordan’s King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein in Amman.

Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Modi lauded Jordan and King Abdullah II for their strong and consistent approach to countering terrorism. He said both sides discussed ways to further enhance cooperation in combating extremism and promoting regional and global security.

“During our discussions, we talked about further strengthening cooperation in countering terrorism, extremism, and radicalisation,” the Prime Minister said, praising Jordan’s constructive role in fostering peace and stability.

Recalling his first meeting with King Abdullah II nearly a decade ago, Modi highlighted the Jordanian leader’s long-standing commitment to moderation. “Our first meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations in 2015 at an event focused on countering violent extremism. Even then, you delivered inspirational remarks on this subject. Your efforts to promote moderation are extremely important not only for regional peace but also for global peace,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi emphasised that India and Jordan would continue to work closely to strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors. “We will move forward concretely in this direction together and further strengthen all other dimensions of our mutual cooperation,” he added.

This marks Prime Minister Modi’s first bilateral visit to Jordan. He had earlier transited through the country in February 2018 while travelling to the State of Palestine. Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Modi thanked King Abdullah II for his friendship and commitment to strengthening ties with India.

“This year, we are celebrating the 75th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. This important milestone will inspire us to move forward with renewed energy in the years ahead,” Modi said. He expressed confidence that the discussions would add new momentum and depth to bilateral relations, particularly in areas such as trade, fertilisers, digital technology, infrastructure, and people-to-people exchanges.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Amman on Monday afternoon, beginning a three-nation tour that will also take him to Ethiopia and the Sultanate of Oman. He was received at the airport by Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan during his two-day visit, undertaken at the invitation of King Abdullah II.

During the meeting, King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein spoke about advancing Jordan–India relations further and opening new avenues for cooperation, underscoring the strong and growing partnership between the two countries.
