Bengaluru : In a shocking development that has rocked Karnataka’s law enforcement community, former Director General and Inspector General of Police (DGP & IGP) Om Prakash was allegedly murdered by his wife, Pallavi, at their residence in Bengaluru’s HSR Layout. Police revealed on Monday that Pallavi made a video call to a friend moments after the killing, during which she reportedly declared, “I have killed the monster.”
According to Bengaluru Police, the 68-year-old retired IPS officer was fatally stabbed by his wife after she allegedly threw chilli powder in his eyes during a heated altercation on Sunday. The attack took place on the ground floor of their three-storeyed home, where Prakash was later found lying in a pool of blood.
The couple’s daughter, Kriti, has been taken into custody for questioning, while no formal arrests have yet been made. An FIR has been registered against Pallavi and Kriti based on a complaint filed by Prakash’s son, Karthikesh, who alleged that his mother had been battling severe mental health issues for years and was responsible for the murder.
Pallavi is currently undergoing treatment for schizophrenia and has been on prescribed medication, police confirmed. She had reportedly approached local authorities in the past with complaints of domestic discord and had even staged a protest outside the HSR Layout police station, claiming her grievances were being ignored.
Investigators suspect the murder may have stemmed from prolonged family tensions, including an unresolved dispute over property in Dandeli, Karnataka. Police are also examining past complaints and altercations between the couple as part of their ongoing investigation.
Forensic teams are analyzing the crime scene, and an autopsy is underway to determine the exact cause and nature of the injuries sustained by the former police chief.
Om Prakash, a native of Champaran, Bihar, was a 1981-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer who held several key posts during his long and distinguished career. He had a Master’s degree in Geology and served across Ballari, Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, the Lokayukta, and the Fire and Emergency Services before retiring as Karnataka’s top cop in March 2017.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the state’s police fraternity, with many former colleagues expressing disbelief and sorrow over the tragic end of one of Karnataka’s most respected officers.
