New Delhi : A woman private tutor and her two accomplices have been arrested for allegedly impersonating CBI officials and duping her relative of cash and jewellery worth over ₹3 lakh in Delhi’s Wazirabad area, police said on Sunday.
According to Delhi Police, the accused — a 22-year-old woman from Karawal Nagar, along with Keshav Prasad (28) and Vivek Singh (20) — posed as officers from the “CBI Okhla Branch” and targeted the house of her distant relative, Israt Jameel, on the evening of July 10.
“The trio entered the house around 7:30 p.m., claiming they had a search warrant. Dressed in white shirts and black trousers, they conducted a fake raid, coercing the family into sitting in one corner while they broke open a locked almirah,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North District) Raja Banthia.
The accused fled the scene with ₹3 lakh in cash and several gold and silver ornaments. They even wrote a fake seizure memo in the notebook of Jameel’s daughter, signed with false identities, before making their getaway.
Jameel grew suspicious and contacted police soon after the imposters left. Following an investigation, police tracked down the woman and Keshav Prasad to Mussoorie and apprehended them on July 18. Based on their inputs, Vivek Singh was arrested from Haridwar.
Police recovered ₹1.75 lakh in cash, 29 pieces of stolen jewellery, a motorcycle used in the crime, and the clothes worn by the accused during the raid. “The trio confessed to spending a portion of the money on luxuries and frequently changed locations to avoid arrest,” DCP Banthia said.
Providing further background, the police revealed that Keshav Prasad runs a food supplement shop in Haridwar, while Vivek Singh is currently unemployed and enrolled in an open school. The woman, a graduate, works as a private tutor for schoolchildren in north Delhi.
All three have been booked under sections related to cheating, theft, and mischief with intent to cause harm or restraint. The case is being further investigated, police added.
