Renuka Agarwal, wife of a Hyderabad businessman, was murdered in her apartment by two domestic helpers. The assailants, Harsha and Roushan, tied her up, stabbed her, and stole gold ornaments and cash before fleeing on a scooter. Police are investigating, suspecting they may have fled to Ranchi, and have registered a case of murder.
Telangana State – Hyderabad — In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves across the city, Renuka Agarwal (50), wife of prominent steel businessman Rakesh Agarwal, was found murdered in her Swan Lake condominium near Kukatpally Y Junction on Wednesday evening. The brutal crime, carried out by two domestic helpers, has left residents shaken and raised serious concerns about domestic security in gated communities.
According to police reports, Renuka was tied up and stabbed to death by the assailants, who then looted her gold ornaments and cash. The attackers — identified as Harsha, a newly employed domestic help, and his accomplice Roushan, another helper from the same building — fled the scene on a two-wheeler belonging to Roushan’s employer.
Police revealed that Harsha, a native of Ranchi, had been employed just 10 days ago by the Agarwal family through a manpower agency operated by a person named Shankar from Kolkata. On the day of the crime, he and Roushan allegedly tied up Renuka inside her apartment, stabbed her multiple times using a pair of scissors and a knife, and made off with around four tolas of gold (worth approximately ₹4 lakhs) and ₹1 lakh in cash from the cupboards.
The murder came to light when Rakesh Agarwal and the couple’s son returned home in the evening and found Renuka unresponsive. They immediately alerted the police.
CCTV footage from the Swan Lake complex captured the two accused using the elevator to exit the premises at exactly 5:02 PM. Multiple surveillance cameras documented their escape, providing crucial evidence for investigators. Police suspect the duo fled towards the KPHB Colony area before possibly making their way toward Ranchi.
A senior police officer confirmed that a special team has been formed to track down the absconding suspects. “We have collected fingerprints from the scene, and the body has been sent for post-mortem. A case has been registered under Section 103(1) [Murder] of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),” he said.
The shocking nature of the crime has sparked fear and outrage among local residents. Many have expressed concerns over the vetting of domestic staff and the role of manpower agencies.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Balanagar), who visited the crime scene, assured residents that all efforts are being made to bring the culprits to justice swiftly.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and thoroughly verify backgrounds of domestic staff before employment. As the investigation continues, the city watches closely, gripped by the disturbing events at one of its upscale residential enclaves.
