Indian Army Responds After Pakistani Troops Fire Along LoC

New Delhi  — The Indian Army on Thursday night effectively responded to small arms firing by the Pakistan military at multiple locations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, military sources confirmed. No casualties were reported on the Indian side.

“Small arm firing at some places on the Line of Control was initiated by the Pakistan Army. It was effectively responded to by the Indian Army. No casualties,” Indian Army officials said in a brief statement.

The latest border provocation comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam earlier this week, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. The attack has triggered a series of strong diplomatic retaliations from New Delhi, aimed at Islamabad.

“There were incidents of small arms firing at some places on the Line of Control initiated by Pakistan,” a military source said, reiterating that the response from Indian forces was “measured and effective.”

In response to the Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian government has taken sweeping diplomatic actions:

  • Closure of Attari Check Post: The Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, a major transit point for goods and people between the two countries, has been shut with immediate effect.

  • Suspension of SAARC Visa Scheme: The SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme for Pakistani nationals has been suspended, and they have been directed to leave India within 40 hours.

  • Expulsion of Military Advisers: India has declared all Defence, Naval, and Air Advisors posted in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi as Persona Non Grata, giving them a week to leave. In a reciprocal move, Indian military advisers posted in Islamabad will also return. Support staff from both missions are being withdrawn.

  • Review of Indus Waters Treaty: India has halted its adherence to the Indus Waters Treaty, a landmark 1960 agreement that governs the use of rivers shared by the two countries.

Speaking on the measures, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated: “These actions underscore the seriousness with which India views the continued cross-border terrorism. We expect Pakistan to take credible steps to dismantle the infrastructure of terror operating from its soil.”

As diplomatic and military tensions continue to escalate, analysts warn of further deterioration in ties between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, raising concerns about regional stability.
