Two Terrorists Killed in Poonch in ‘Operation Shiv Shakti’

Jammu — In a major counter-terror operation, Indian Army troops eliminated two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. The operation, codenamed ‘Operation Shiv Shakti’, marks the second significant success against cross-border terrorism in just three days, following the elimination of three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in Dachigam forest on Monday.

According to defence officials, Army personnel observed suspicious movement along the LoC in Poonch and quickly engaged the infiltrators. “Gunfire was exchanged after our troops noticed two individuals near the fence,” a defence spokesperson stated. The White Knight Corps of the Indian Army confirmed that both terrorists were neutralized and three weapons were recovered from their possession.

“Alert troops of the Indian Army eliminated two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control. Swift action and accurate firepower thwarted their nefarious designs,” the White Knight Corps said in an official statement. The operation was still underway at the time of this report.

Security officials noted that the success of the operation was a result of “synergistic and synchronised intelligence inputs” from Army intelligence units and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Dachigam Operation: LeT Commander Eliminated

The Poonch encounter comes close on the heels of ‘Operation Mahadev’ in the Dachigam forests near Srinagar, where three high-profile Pakistani terrorists were killed in a joint operation by the Army, CRPF, and J&K Police. Among those gunned down was Suleman Shah, a top LeT commander, along with his two associates Abu Hamza and Jibran Bhai.

During a debate in Parliament on Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that the trio was responsible for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 civilians dead, including 25 tourists and one local resident.

Shah revealed that the terrorists’ identities were verified with the help of two local women whose sons are now in custody for allegedly providing shelter to the attackers. Forensic evidence also confirmed that the M4 carbine and AK-47 rifles recovered in Dachigam matched the cartridge samples from the Pahalgam massacre.

A Heightened Security Posture

With repeated infiltration attempts and recent high-casualty terror attacks, the Indian security apparatus in Jammu and Kashmir remains on high alert. ‘Operation Shiv Shakti’ and ‘Operation Mahadev’ highlight a renewed focus on pre-emptive intelligence, coordinated action, and swift tactical response to cross-border threats.

Officials say that these operations send a strong message to terror outfits and their handlers across the border: India will not tolerate infiltration or attacks on its civilians.

Security forces continue combing operations in both sectors to ensure no further threats remain.
