Chain Snatching Case Cracked in Thimmapur Mandal – Five Accused Arrested

Karimnagar : Police have successfully cracked the sensational chain snatching and assault case involving an RMP doctor in Thimmapur mandal of Karimnagar district. Five accused have been arrested in connection with the crime, and police recovered the car used in the offence, a gold chain, and cash from their possession.

Background

The victim, Thammanaveni Komurayya (56), an RMP doctor from Gundlapalli village of Ganneruvaram mandal, was targeted by the accused. Four of the suspects are from the local area, while one belongs to Peddapalli district.

According to police, the group was addicted to spending on leisure activities and had earlier rented an Ertiga car which got damaged. They needed around ₹40,000 to pay the vehicle owner for the damages. To arrange the money, they planned a robbery and identified Komurayya—who usually travelled alone and wore a gold chain—as their target.

On March 11, the accused rented a Swift Dzire car in Karimnagar and waited for the opportunity to execute their plan.

Details of the Incident

At around 11:30 PM on March 11, Komurayya was returning on his motorcycle from Nedunur when the accused followed him in their car. Near a mango orchard on the outskirts of Nedunur, they intercepted him.

The assailants allegedly threw chilli powder into his eyes, causing panic and disorientation. They then snatched his one-tola gold chain and ₹1,000 cash before fleeing from the scene.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following the complaint, police launched an investigation under the directions of the Commissioner of Police. The probe was conducted under the supervision of the ACP Karimnagar Rural, with the Thimmapur CI and police staff leading the operation.

On March 13 at around 8:00 AM, during vehicle checks near Indira Nagar Cross Roads, police intercepted a suspicious Swift Dzire car. Upon inspection, five suspects were taken into custody.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to the chain snatching and also admitted their involvement in the theft of an electric motor in Koheda mandal.
