PM Modi to visit Bihar, West Bengal today

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Bihar and West Bengal on Friday to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a slew of development projects worth more than ₹18,200 crore. The initiatives span across key sectors including connectivity, railways, infrastructure, power, health, and urban development.

The visit will begin in Gaya, Bihar, where PM Modi will unveil and initiate projects worth around ₹13,000 crore. A major highlight of the visit will be the flagging off of two important trains — the Amrit Bharat Express between Gaya and Delhi, and the Buddhist Circuit Train from Vaishali to Koderma — aimed at improving rail connectivity, easing travel, and boosting religious tourism in the region.

In line with the government’s focus on affordable housing, the Prime Minister will also distribute keys to beneficiaries of both Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) and PMAY-Urban schemes.

A significant infrastructure boost will come with the inauguration of the Aunta–Simaria six-lane bridge over the Ganga River in Begusarai district. The ₹1,870 crore project features an 8.15 km NH-31 stretch and a 1.86 km six-lane bridge constructed parallel to the old Rajendra Setu. The new bridge will drastically reduce travel distances for heavy vehicles, especially between Mokama in Patna district and Begusarai, saving over 100 kilometers of detour.

Later in the day, PM Modi will head to Kolkata, West Bengal, where he will inaugurate metro services on newly completed sections. At around 4:15 p.m., he is scheduled to flag off metro trains and take a ride from Jessore Road Metro Station to Jai Hind Biman Bandar and back.

To further ease urban transit, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate a new pedestrian subway at Howrah Metro Station.

Additionally, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the six-lane elevated Kona Expressway project in Howrah, a ₹1,200 crore initiative aimed at strengthening connectivity between Howrah, Kolkata, and surrounding rural areas.

The visit underscores the government’s continued focus on infrastructure-led growth and regional connectivity in eastern India.
