Hanumakonda: Illegal layouts are reportedly mushrooming across the district, raising serious concerns among property buyers. Even in several approved layouts, basic development works are reportedly missing. Except for a few genuine realtors, many others are allegedly misleading buyers and making huge profits through fraudulent real estate deals.
A major real estate fraud case has recently come to light in the Hanumakonda region, where a CRPF jawan claims he was cheated in a land deal and suffered severe financial and mental distress after his house was demolished.
The victim, Katam Srikant (36), son of Rajamouli, is currently serving as a jawan in the CRPF at GC, Chandrayangutta, Hyderabad. According to him, he purchased a 200 square yard open plot in Survey No. 598/D from Kandukuri Krishnamurthy (son of Sambaiah) and Sangala Rajesh (son of Lingaiah), residents of Hasanparthi village in Hanumakonda district, on August 29, 2018, for ₹8 lakh, and completed the sale deed registration.
However, he stated that the sellers never provided the original link documents of the property.
In 2019, Srikant spent nearly ₹6 lakh to construct a house on the plot. Later, he obtained an ownership certificate from the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) for House No. 55-3-699/5/1/2 and regularly paid house tax online.
Trouble began when he received a show-cause notice from the GWMC Kazipet Circle-II office on July 1, 2023. Before he could respond, GWMC officials demolished his house using a JCB on June 24, 2024, he alleged.

During further inquiry, Srikant discovered that he had allegedly been cheated, as the land shown to him was actually Survey No. 642 instead of Survey No. 598/D, according to the village map.
He said he submitted a written complaint to the Hanumakonda MRO on August 18, 2025, through registered post, but did not receive any response.
When confronted through local elders, the accused allegedly agreed to compensate him by giving 240 square yards of land in Survey No. 98/D/1 at Nagaram village outskirts. However, upon verifying the Encumbrance Certificate (EC), Srikant found that the land was registered in the names of Veeru Naik and Noonawat, indicating another attempt to deceive him.
Later, Srikant approached community elders of the Varala caste association, who summoned Krishnamurthy for discussion. During the meeting, the accused reportedly promised to rebuild the house at the original Survey No. 598/D location and hand it over to Srikant. However, the promise was allegedly not fulfilled.
Srikant stated that he had purchased the plot with his hard-earned savings while serving the nation in Jammu and Kashmir. Due to the alleged fraud by the realtor, he claims to have suffered severe financial losses and mental trauma.
He has appealed to the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and take strict legal action against those responsible, while ensuring justice for him.
