- Voters Urged to Exercise Franchise Freely
Medak : Medak District Superintendent of Police D.V. Srinivasa Rao has announced that elaborate and stringent security arrangements have been put in place across the district in view of the municipal elections scheduled to be held on February 11.
He stated that the police department has taken comprehensive measures to ensure the peaceful conduct of the second general municipal elections in Medak, Ramayampet, Toopran, and Narsapur municipalities. Police surveillance has been significantly strengthened across the district to prevent any untoward incidents.
The SP emphasized that voters should exercise their right to vote freely without succumbing to any inducements. He warned that strict action would be taken against anyone violating the election code of conduct, and non-bailable cases would be registered against those involved in unnecessary disputes or disturbances.
According to the SP, a detailed security plan has been prepared with the deployment of around 600 police personnel across the four municipal headquarters. Elections will be conducted in 150 polling stations spread over 75 wards. Out of these, 21 polling stations have been identified as sensitive, where special surveillance arrangements have been made. Flag marches have also been conducted in vulnerable areas as part of preventive measures.
To curb potential law and order issues, individuals with previous criminal records and rowdy-sheeters who may attempt to create disturbances during the elections have been identified in advance. Preventive bind-over actions have been initiated against around 1,206 such individuals.
The SP further informed that extensive checks across the district have led to the seizure of cash amounting to ₹2,69,000. In 40 cases, liquor worth approximately ₹5,23,250 (557.44 liters) has been seized. Additionally, drugs worth ₹3,36,000 (336 grams) and freebies valued at ₹9,25,250 have been confiscated. The total value of seized items stands at ₹20,54,660.
Six cases have been registered for violations of the Model Code of Conduct. Special surveillance is being carried out through CCTV cameras, he added.
The Medak District SP appealed to the public to cooperate with the police department to ensure that the municipal elections are conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.
