Komaram Bheem Asifabad District : The strike by municipal workers at the Kagaznagar Municipal Office has entered its 17th day. As part of their agitation, the workers have been staging a gherao of the municipal office for the past four days, demanding resolution of their long-pending issues.
Speaking on the occasion, CITU District President Rajender stated that municipal workers have not received their salaries for the last five months and that arrears amounting to nearly ₹2 crore are pending. He said that despite submitting representations over the past three months to the District Collector, Sub-Collector, and Municipal Commissioner, the authorities have shown a negligent attitude, forcing the workers to launch an indefinite strike.
Rajender further said that discussions were held with the District Collector, Sub-Collector, and an MLC as part of the agitation, but the talks did not yield any positive outcome. Therefore, the workers have decided to continue their strike until their demands are met.
He warned that if necessary, the agitation would be intensified further. He also announced that the municipal workers would organize a padayatra from Kagaznagar Municipality to the Asifabad District Collector’s Office and would lay siege to the district office if the issues are not resolved at the earliest.
A large number of municipal workers, union leaders, and others participated in the protest.
