Alluri District: Blasting activities continue unabated at the Kotnapalli black stone quarry in Alluri district, causing severe hardships for the tribal communities in the area. Although there are many quarries elsewhere, they are being operated without causing problems to nearby villages. However, the Kotnapalli quarry is conducting blasts without adhering to regulations.
These blasts are damaging houses and crops, polluting the air, and creating panic among the tribal residents. Quarry owners are not following the prescribed safety norms related to blasting operations. They are allegedly using large quantities of explosives without proper permissions.
As a result of these illegal blasting activities, homes are getting damaged, crops are being destroyed, and public health is being adversely affected—especially raising serious concerns about the safety of children. The dust and noise generated by the blasts are polluting the air, posing health risks to the villagers.
Locals have been protesting against the quarry blasts, alleging that authorities are ignoring their plight. Illegal quarrying is being carried out without proper approvals, adding to the villagers’ troubles. Victims are accusing the officials—who are supposed to protect tribal rights—of instead siding with the quarry owners.
