Alluri District, Hukumpeta: BJPYM Araku Parliamentary District General Secretary, Panggi Matsya Konda Babu, has raised serious concerns over the inaction of relevant government departments regarding the ongoing issues caused by the Kotnapalli quarry near the Hukumpeta Mandal headquarters.
Addressing the media, he questioned why authorities have failed to take appropriate steps despite repeated complaints and growing public unrest over the past few months. He stated that local residents have been consistently reporting the problems caused by the quarry operations through the “Spandana” grievance redressal platform, but no effective response has been given.
He alleged that excessive rig blasting beyond permitted levels is not only damaging the homes of nearby tribal communities but is also posing serious health risks. “The dust and pollution caused by the quarrying are affecting agricultural yields, making it difficult for farmers to grow crops properly,” he said, citing concerns raised by the local population.
Matsya Konda Babu further warned that air and water pollution from the blasts and quarry operations could lead to serious health issues. “There is a high risk that even pregnant women and unborn livestock are being exposed to conditions that could cause respiratory and developmental disorders,” he said.
He announced plans to visit the affected tribal villages along with state and district BJPYM leaders soon and stated that they would file official complaints with the National ST Commission and the Human Rights Commission regarding the negligence of the authorities.
Finally, he demanded that the officials, who are meant to serve the people, stand with the tribal communities and take immediate and strict action against the Kotnapalli quarry to resolve the ongoing crisis.
