Andhrapradesh – Tirupati District, Pakala : Despite changes in governments and leadership over the years, the fate of some villages remains unchanged. Due to official apathy and the inaction of public representatives, residents of villages under Upparapalli Panchayat in Pakala mandal continue to struggle without basic amenities. Agraharam and Upparapalli villages have been living in darkness for the past six months, with no functioning streetlights and no proper burial ground.
The main road connecting Pakala railway underbridge to Agraharam village has been engulfed in darkness for months. With streetlights not working, night travel has become extremely risky. Residents say venomous snakes and scorpions are frequently spotted, posing a serious threat to life. Despite submitting multiple petitions, officials have failed to respond, leaving villagers frustrated.
In a glaring example of lack of basic infrastructure, the villages do not even have a designated burial ground. Villagers say they have been demanding land allocation for decades, but authorities have remained indifferent. The situation worsens during the rainy season, making last rites a distressing ordeal for families.
“Authorities show great enthusiasm in collecting taxes, but not in providing basic facilities. At least now, senior officials should respond and restore streetlights immediately, and allocate land for a burial ground. Otherwise, we will be forced to launch large-scale protests,” villagers warned.
Residents have urged authorities to act without delay and address the long-pending issues affecting their daily lives.
