Terrorists Fire On Army Camp In Jammu Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir: In a daring attack just ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, terrorists opened fire on a temporary Army camp located in the forest area of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir early Saturday morning.

The incident took place around 1:20 AM when the alert sentry post of the camp in Batod panchayat detected suspicious movement. Upon noticing the potential threat, the sentries immediately opened fire, prompting an exchange of fire between the terrorists and the Army personnel. The skirmish lasted for nearly half an hour, but fortunately, there were no reported casualties on either side.

Jammu-based Defence spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Suneel Bhartwal, confirmed the clash, stating that the exchange of fire took place after suspected terrorists were spotted in the Bhatoli area, where the temporary Army camp had been established. “An exchange of fire took place, and the investigation is ongoing,” Bhartwal added.

The terrorists, believed to be three in number, retaliated with gunfire before fleeing into a nearby forest. Army forces have since launched a major cordon-and-search operation to track down the fleeing attackers. Authorities are actively combing the area for further leads.

This attack comes at a time when security measures have been heightened across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Republic Day, with several security operations in place. The incident also coincides with the trial run of the Vande Bharat Express between Katra and Budgam, adding to the heightened alert status in the region.

Earlier this week, Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP), Nalin Prabhat, had visited the tri-junction of Kathua, Udhampur, and Doda districts to review the security situation in the wake of rising tensions in the area. Kathua has been a target of terror attacks in the past, with several such incidents occurring last year.

Authorities are now monitoring the situation closely, and further updates are expected as the search operation continues.
