Brutal Custodial Torture of Minor by Jubilee Hills Police Leaves Teen Paralyzed, Family Demands Justice

Hyderabad, Telangana — July 12, 2025 : In a deeply disturbing case that has sparked public outrage and renewed calls for police accountability, a 17-year-old boy, Daggubati Ajith Kumar  Sharma, was allegedly subjected to severe custodial torture by officers of the Jubilee Hills Police Station, leading to partial paralysis. The boy’s father, Daggubati Rambabu, has accused the police of wrongfully detaining and torturing his son, a minor at the time of the incident, in flagrant violation of legal safeguards.

The Incident

According to the complaint filed by the family, on December 15, 2024, Ajith Kumar was forcibly picked up by police officers from his neighborhood without prior summons or notice. The detention stemmed from a complaint lodged by Shaik Abdul Rahman, whose allegations remain under scrutiny.

Ajith was reportedly taken to the Jubilee Hills Police Station and held in custody for several hours. During this time, his family alleges that Inspector Venkateswara Reddy and Sub-Inspector Vinod Kumar Reddy subjected him to brutal physical assault, including beatings with lathis, kicking, and forced stress positions.

“He was beaten until he collapsed. They didn’t care that he was a child. They didn’t inform us. We only found out when he was dumped at the government hospital,” said Daggubati Rambabu, struggling to hold back tears.

Medical Consequences

Medical reports accessed by the family confirm that Ajith suffered neurological trauma, spinal damage, and internal injuries consistent with blunt force trauma. Doctors at Osmania General Hospital diagnosed partial paralysis, and Ajith has since been confined to a wheelchair with limited mobility.

“He went into that station walking and came out crippled for life,” said an activist from the Human Rights Forum, which has taken up the case.

Legal and Human Rights Violations

The detention and alleged torture of a minor contravenes multiple legal provisions, including the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court of India in the landmark DK Basu judgment, which mandates safeguards during arrests and prohibits torture.

“It is unconscionable and criminal. This case reflects a complete breakdown in the rule of law,” said Advocate, who is representing the family. “The officers involved must be suspended, prosecuted, and held accountable. A departmental inquiry is not enough.”

No FIR Against Officers Yet

Despite the serious nature of the allegations and medical documentation, no First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the accused officers as of this report. The family has submitted a written complaint to the Telangana State Human Rights Commission, and a petition is being moved in the High Court seeking a judicial inquiry.

Public Reaction

The incident has triggered outrage on social media, with hashtags like #JusticeForAjith and #PoliceBrutalityTelangana trending. Several rights groups and student organizations have planned protests in front of the Jubilee Hills Police Station and Telangana Secretariat over the weekend.

Demand for Accountability

The Daggubati family is demanding:

  • Immediate suspension of Inspector Venkateswara Reddy and Sub-Inspector Vinod Kumar Reddy.

  • Registration of an FIR under IPC Sections 342, 324, 326, and the Juvenile Justice Act.

  • Compensation for medical treatment and rehabilitation.

  • A court-monitored independent investigation.

As Ajith continues to battle pain, trauma, and immobility, his family says their fight for justice has only just begun. “We will not stop until every person responsible for this is punished,” said Rambabu.

“In the past , Jubilee Hills Sub-Inspector Vinod Kumar Reddy and Inspector Venkateswara Reddy have faced several allegations of supporting attempts to encroach temple land and misdirecting the case to protect the accused.”
