Warangal, Telangana: A clash involving two police personnel at a bar near Ursugutta in Warangal district has sparked controversy, with a video of the incident circulating widely on social media.
According to reports, bar staff alerted the emergency response service 112, alleging that a battalion constable Manoj was consuming alcohol and creating a nuisance at the premises.
Following the complaint, Beat Constable Santosh Reddy of Mills Colony Police Station reportedly reached the bar. He allegedly asked the battalion constable to leave the premises and advised him to put on his shirt before leaving. The situation reportedly escalated into a verbal confrontation, which later turned physical.
Reports suggest that the two constables allegedly attacked each other during the altercation. It has also been alleged that the beat constable used a baton against the battalion constable and that some bar staff and locals also joined in the assault.
The incident has raised questions about the manner in which the situation was handled. If a person is allegedly creating a nuisance or committing an offence, particularly in a public place, the appropriate course of action would generally be to inform senior officers, call additional police personnel if necessary, take the individual into custody in accordance with law, and initiate legal proceedings based on the facts established during the investigation.
Allegations that a police constable may have joined others in physically assaulting an individual, instead of following due procedure, are serious and warrant an impartial inquiry. Wearing a police uniform does not place anyone above the law, and police personnel are also expected to follow established procedures while dealing with alleged offenders.
