Jorhat, Assam: A tragic accident involving an Indian Air Force (IAF) AN-32 transport aircraft claimed the lives of five Air Force personnel after the aircraft crashed while landing at the Jorhat Air Force Station in Assam on Saturday.
According to official sources, the AN-32 aircraft was undertaking a routine training sortie when it met with an accident during the landing phase. The aircraft reportedly crashed within the airbase premises and caught fire immediately after impact, triggering an emergency response from fire and rescue teams stationed at the base.
Despite swift rescue efforts, all five personnel on board succumbed to their injuries. The deceased have been identified as Squadron Leader Prashant Singh, Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar, Sergeant Jitendra Sharma, Agniveervayu Khemaram Kumawat, and Agniveervayu Danish Alam.

The Indian Air Force expressed deep sorrow over the loss of its personnel and extended condolences to the bereaved families. In an official statement, the IAF said it stands firmly with the families during this difficult time.
A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary reports indicate that the mishap occurred during the aircraft’s landing approach, though officials have stated that the precise circumstances will be established only after a detailed investigation.
The AN-32 is a twin-engine military transport aircraft that has served as a key logistical asset for the Indian Air Force, particularly in challenging terrains and remote operational areas.
