Lt.General Dhiraj Seth Appointed as New Chief of the Indian Army

New Delhi: The Central Government has appointed Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth as the next Chief of the Indian Army. Currently serving as the Vice Chief of Army Staff, he will assume office on June 30.

The appointment comes as the current Army Chief, General Upendra Dwivedi, is set to retire on the same day. With this transition, Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth will take charge as the head of one of the world’s largest armed forces.

A graduate of the National Defence Academy, Dhiraj Seth was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986. During his nearly four-decade-long military career, he has held several prestigious command and staff appointments across the country.

He has commanded an Armoured Regiment in desert terrain and later led an Armoured Brigade along India’s western border. He also played a key role in counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir, commanding formations responsible for maintaining security and stability in the region.

As a Lieutenant General, Seth commanded the renowned Sudarshan Chakra Corps, one of the Indian Army’s most important strike formations. He also served as the General Officer Commanding of the Delhi Area, overseeing several domestic and international military coordination responsibilities.

Military officials credit him with making significant contributions to force modernization, strategic planning, capability enhancement, and organizational reforms within the Army. His efforts have helped prepare the force for emerging security challenges and future warfare requirements.

Lieutenant General Seth has completed the Higher Command Course and advanced studies at the National Defence College. He also attended the prestigious Command and Staff Course in Paris, gaining valuable exposure to contemporary military doctrines and global strategic thinking.

Defence experts believe his extensive operational experience and strategic vision will play a crucial role in strengthening India’s military preparedness and modernization efforts in the years ahead.
