Rajam, Srikakulam District: A government school teacher was allegedly assaulted by the son of a head constable following an argument over a car parked in front of the school gate at Zilla Parishad High School in Dolapeta under Rajam Municipality on Friday. The incident created tension on the school premises and raised concerns over the safety of teachers.
According to school staff, the son of a teacher had arrived at the school to drop his mother and parked his car in front of the main gate during the morning prayer. As the vehicle obstructed the entrance, Physical Education Teacher (PET) Sujatha requested him to move the car. When he reportedly ignored the request, she tapped the vehicle with a small stick, triggering a heated argument.
Teacher Labhala Venu intervened and objected to the youth’s behaviour. The youth then informed his father, a head constable posted at a police station in the district. Shortly afterwards, the head constable arrived at the school along with his son and entered the Headmaster’s chamber.
Teachers alleged that in the presence of the Headmaster and other staff members, the youth attacked teacher Venu while he was signing the attendance register. Despite his mother attempting to stop him, the youth allegedly assaulted the teacher, leaving him injured. Venu was immediately shifted to Rajam Area Hospital for treatment. Interestingly, the youth also got admitted to the same hospital claiming that he too had been assaulted.
Headmaster R.V.G.N. Muralikrishna stated that he had lodged a complaint with the police along with other teachers. He said the assault took place inside his chamber in full public view and described the incident as shocking.
Vizianagaram MP Kalisetti Appala Naidu condemned the attack and urged Rajam Town Circle Inspector Ashok to take strict legal action against the accused. He said such incidents should not be allowed to recur.
Teachers’ organisations, including the Andhra Pradesh Teachers Federation (APTF) and the United Teachers Federation (UTF), also condemned the incident and demanded stringent action against those responsible.
Rajam Mandal Educational Officer (MEO) Yagati Durgarao said the matter had been reported to the District Educational Officer through both telephone and a written report.
However, Rajam Town Circle Inspector Ashok Kumar stated that no written complaint had been submitted to the police and that both parties had reached a mutual settlement.
