Tensions between the United States and Iran have once again reached a critical level, raising fears of a fresh conflict in the Middle East. Reports suggesting that the US is preparing for “new strikes” against Iran have intensified concerns, while Tehran has announced the complete closure of its airspace as a precautionary measure. The suspension of peace talks between the two nations has further complicated the situation.
According to a CBS News report, US President Donald Trump is reportedly inclined to approve major military action against Iran within the next 24 hours if there is no significant diplomatic breakthrough. However, the report also noted that no final decision on military strikes has been taken yet.
The growing tensions have already affected the US administration and defense establishment. Several American military and intelligence officials have reportedly canceled their Memorial Day weekend plans amid fears of escalating conflict. Trump himself cut short his planned New Jersey visit and rushed back to Washington as the crisis deepened.
Highlighting the seriousness of the situation, Trump also stated that he may not be able to attend the wedding of his son, Donald Trump Jr. In a post on Truth Social, he said, “Given the current government situation, it is important for me to remain in Washington.”
Although the temporary ceasefire announced in April remains in place, negotiations between Washington and Tehran have failed to make progress. The primary sticking point continues to be Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium.
The United States has insisted that Iran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons capability and has demanded that Tehran transfer its enriched uranium stockpile out of the country. Iran, however, has firmly rejected the demand, maintaining that its nuclear program is a sovereign right.
With diplomatic efforts stalled and military rhetoric intensifying, fears of another major conflict in the Middle East are once again growing, drawing global attention to the rapidly evolving crisis.
