Annamayya District, Andhra Pradesh: Allegations of harassment and intimidation have surfaced against postal officials in Cherukuvaripalli village under Sadum Mandal of Annamayya district.
According to the victim, Dhanalakshmi, who has been serving as the Branch Postmaster at Cherukuvaripalli Branch Post Office for the past four years, the incident occurred in June 2025. She stated that during an inspection visit, Kiran Kumar, who was serving as an MO, found customer passbooks and cash amounting to ₹8,26,000 in the office.
Questioning why such a large amount of cash was kept at the branch office, he allegedly stated that the cash and related applications were being seized. He reportedly instructed her to provide an explanation to the District Superintendent of Post Offices and took the cash along with him.
Dhanalakshmi further alleged that Punganur Inspector of Post Offices Mohan, Sub-Postmaster Subrahmanyam, Gandlapalli Postman Umapathi, and Sadum Postwoman Sonam pressured and threatened her in connection with the matter. She claimed they told her, “You are a non-local. No one will support you here. Even if you complain, no one will believe you. We will file cases against you,” allegedly attempting to blackmail her.
The victim stated that although she approached Sadum Police Station to file a complaint, there was no response. She later submitted a complaint at the Deputy Chief Minister’s Office in Mangalagiri.
Locals have demanded a comprehensive inquiry by higher authorities to uncover the truth and ensure transparency within the Postal Department. An official response from the concerned authorities is awaited.
