Cyber Fraud in IPL Ticket Sales: Hyderabad Police Warn Cricket Fans

Hyderabad – IPL fever has gripped the city as excitement builds for the much-awaited clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal on May 22. With fans eager to watch star players like Virat Kohli and Pat Cummins in action, cybercriminals are taking advantage of the craze through fake ticketing scams.

Hyderabad Police have warned that fraudsters are creating fake mobile apps and cloned websites resembling the official IPL ticket booking platforms. Attractive advertisements promising premium tickets at low prices are flooding social media platforms such as Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram.

According to police, cybercriminals are using logos and designs similar to the official “District” ticketing app to mislead cricket fans. Fake download links are being circulated through APK files and unofficial app links, tricking users into entering personal and banking details while booking tickets.

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Sajjanar issued a strong warning to the public through social media, urging fans not to trust unauthorized IPL ticket advertisements. He cautioned that clicking on suspicious links could not only lead to financial loss but also expose sensitive bank account information to cybercriminals.

Police advised cricket lovers to avoid black-market ticket offers and unofficial websites. Fans have been urged to purchase tickets only through authorized platforms. Authorities also requested the public to immediately report suspicious apps or fraudulent links by calling the cybercrime helpline 1930 or approaching the nearest cybercrime police station.

Officials warned that excitement over IPL matches should not come at the cost of personal financial security and appealed to fans to remain alert against online scams.
