Pune : Artificial Intelligence (AI) is playing an increasingly important role in modern warfare, enabling faster and more efficient decision-making, said Indian Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi.
Speaking to reporters after reviewing the 150th Passing Out Parade at the NATIONAL DEFECE ACADEMY in Pune, General Dwivedi said that modern battlefields are generating massive volumes of data from multiple sources, making rapid analysis and decision-making essential.
He said that in high-speed warfare scenarios, commanders need technological support to process information quickly, where AI becomes a key enabler. Systems such as Small Language Models and Large Language Models can help in faster data analysis and efficient resource allocation, he added.
Highlighting the growing role of drones in warfare, the Army Chief said there is an increasing threat from enemy drones, making counter-drone systems essential. At the same time, effective use of own drones is equally important, he noted.
He further said that automation is necessary to manage the expanding ecosystem of drones, sensors, and surveillance systems, and AI will be a critical tool in future warfare.
