Srinagar/Anantnag : A police Head Constable was killed in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday. The attack took place while a police team was deployed for security duties related to the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, officials said.
According to officials, terrorists opened fire on the police personnel at around 12:30 p.m. in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag. Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi sustained critical injuries in the attack.
He was immediately shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Anantnag, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the entire area and launched a massive search operation to track down the attackers. Additional forces have been deployed, and intensive vehicle checks and area searches are underway.
The attack has prompted authorities to further strengthen security arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra. Police have registered a case, and an investigation into the incident is in progress.
