Telangana – Kagaznagar: The Sirpur Paper Mill Mazdoor Union, affiliated with CITU, has demanded that immediate canteen and basic welfare facilities be provided to workers in the Sirpur Paper Mill as per the Factories Act. The union representatives submitted a memorandum to the State Director of Factories, Y. Mohan Babu, in Hyderabad.
Allegation of Legal Violation:
According to Section 46 of the Factories Act, 1948, any factory employing more than 250 workers must provide a canteen facility. However, despite having around 2,188 workers, the Sirpur Paper Mill has not provided this facility for the past eight years, which is a clear violation of the law, said Union President J. Mallikarjun.
Workers Facing Hardships:
The union leaders expressed concern that after the JK management took over the mill in 2018, earlier welfare facilities have not been properly implemented, causing significant difficulties for workers.
Demand for Immediate Action:
The union urged authorities to conduct an immediate inquiry through the Factories Inspector and ensure the establishment of a subsidized canteen for workers. Union Working President Bhupal and others were present during the submission of the memorandum.
